About LCC

Chartered on April 3, 1958, Lenoir Community College (LCC) is one of the oldest community colleges in the state and a proud member of the 58-college North Carolina Community College System. Located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and N.C. Highway 58 in Kinston, LCC serves as a vital educational and economic engine for eastern North Carolina.

The College’s primary service area includes Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties, with additional reach throughout the region. LCC offers a wide variety of degree and non-degree programs designed to prepare students for the workforce or transfer to a four-year university. Thirty-eight associate degrees, 15 diplomas, and 58 certificates are available in fields such as health sciences, aviation, advanced manufacturing, business, public safety, information technology, education, and the arts.

LCC serves more than 3,000 curriculum students and 6,000 continuing education students annually and employs more than 400 faculty and staff members who are dedicated to student success.

Dr. Rusty Hunt became the seventh president of Lenoir Community College on October 1, 2016. Under his leadership, the College has renewed its focus on enhancing the student experience—from the first point of contact with prospective students through program completion and successful transition into the workforce. This student-centered approach drives ongoing institutional planning, including the College’s facilities master planning efforts aimed at creating vibrant, modern learning environments.

Lenoir Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees. Lenoir Community College also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. In October 2023, the College celebrated a successful on-site review and received reaffirmation of its accreditation with no recommendations—an endorsement of LCC’s commitment to excellence in education and institutional effectiveness.

In addition to its main campus in Kinston, LCC offers educational access through several regional centers:

  • LCC Greene County Center: Offers continuing education and workforce programs including welding, nurse aide, and basic skills education.
  • LCC Jones County Center: Provides short-term training and workforce development opportunities, including barbering, nail technology, gunsmithing, and more.
  • LCC La Grange Center: Focuses on continuing education and community enrichment courses, with programs tailored to meet local needs.

LCC is also investing in the future of aviation. The College recently broke ground on its new Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE), a state-of-the-art facility expected to open in Spring 2026. The ACE will house programs currently offered at the LCC Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Center (AAMC), including Airframe & Powerplant Technology, Aviation Management, Industrial Systems Technology, and Manned and Unmanned Pilot programming.

Through strong community partnerships, innovative academic offerings, and a deep commitment to student success, Lenoir Community College is helping individuals dream big—and equipping them with the skills and knowledge to achieve their goals.
