A Legal Assistant provides support to lawyers and legal teams by performing a variety of tasks that vary depending on the size of the law firm or the area of law they work in. Legal Assistants must have a strong understanding of legal terminology and processes, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. While they do not provide legal advice, their work is crucial in helping lawyers prepare for cases and manage their workload efficiently. Job duties of a Legal Assistant may include conducting legal research that are relevant to a case; drafting legal documents such as contracts, wills, pleadings, briefs, and assisting in the preparation of trial or hearing documents; case management; assisting with communication between clients and lawyers; scheduling hearings, depositions, and trials; performing administrative tasks such as answering phones, managing schedules, and handling correspondence; maintaining databases and document management systems; assisting with trial preparation; assisting with billing clients for legal services and managing invoices.
