The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum provides knowledge, skills, and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in a dynamic environment, and to meet individual needs which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing safe, individualized care while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.
Graduates of this program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Employment opportunities are vast within the global health care system and may include positions within acute, chronic, extended industrial, and community health care facilities.
This is a competitive admissions program, and acceptance is not guaranteed. Applicants are accepted for admission based on required criterion and individual applications. To be eligible to apply for the AAS, Associate Degree Nursing program, students must meet the following minimum prerequisite requirements.
Minimum MATH Prerequisite Requirements:
An applicant must have completed ONE of the following before receiving the applicant packet:
- An unweighted high school GPA of 2.8 or higher from a College Prep Curriculum
- A grade of “P” for DMA 010-080
- A grade of “C” or higher for MAT 080
- Completion of Transitions Math through Tier 3
- A grade of “C” or higher in MAT 035
- Placement test scores that demonstrate mastery of MAT 035
Students who have completed a college approved Math course such as MAT-121, MAT-122, MAT-141, MAT-143, MAT-151, MAT-152, MAT-161, MAT-171, MAT-263, or MAT-271 (with grade of C or better) may meet the math requirement.
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY Prerequisite Requirements:
- Successful completion of BIO-168 & BIO-169 (with grade of C or better)
- BIO-168 – must be completed by end of fall semester in order to apply to the ADN program
- BIO-169 – must be complete before or during the spring semester prior to enrollment. Proof of enrollment is required when submitting the Health Sciences application.
